Meet the Flock

Meet Yoda, definately the "shining star" of Simple Pleasures Farm. He came to us when he was just a few hours old, from Bear Mountain Farm in Rupert Vermont (www.bearmountainfarm.com ). He weighed only 2 lbs. Living in our house, with us, for a couple of months, he gained  enough strength to move to the barn with the other sheep. Naturally, he became very attached to his moms'.... orphaned lambs can be a lot of work, but usually, very worth the effort. As you can see by these pictures, we are all happy about his progress. His fleece is amazing!

Yoda is looking at the grass on the other side of the fence. It is really true, it IS always greener.

Bottle lambs get fed several times each day. As time goes on, they are weaned off of the bottle. We have been accused of keeping them on much longer than really necessary. However, we don't mind, and as you can see, he certainly doesn't!

Meet Willimina, she was born on Willie Nelson's birthday.. she is sweet and independent...

This is Fiona, Willimina's mom. She produces lovely mohair, as well as great kids!

Mother and daughter enjoy grazing together on a sunny day.

Willimina is an Angora goat. Angora goats produce mohair, which is very soft and has a wonderful shine. When we blend wool and mohair into yarn, the mohair tales the dye differently than the wool. This produces an interesting yarn with a variety of shades of the same color. Check out Our Yarns page to see examples ..
